The UA is honored to partner with Playbook as we welcome two guests for our third and final installment of the SEL in the Community Conversation Series: Quincy Douby and JR Inman.

Quincy Douby is a former professional basketball player from Brooklyn, New York. After averaging 35 ppg at Grady High School, the 6’3, 165 pound shooting guard took his talents to the college ranks to play at Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ). As a freshman at Rutgers, Douby scored 35 points to lead the team to an overtime victory in the NIT semifinal game. Douby was named to the Big East All–Rookie Team at the end of his freshman year.In his junior year, Douby, as guard, was named to the All Big–East team. He led the Big East in scoring with 25.4 points a game, becoming the first Rutgers player to lead the Big East in scoring. In addition, he broke the all–time single season scoring record at Rutgers. Douby scored a Big East season high and Carrier Dome opponent record 41 points at Syracuse on February 1, 2006.

In 2006, Douby was drafted in the first round by the Sacramento Kings, 19th overall. Douby became the first Rutgers player to be drafted in the first round since Roy Hinson in 1983. On July 3, 2006, he was signed to a contract by Sacramento. In 2009, Douby continued his NBA conquest playing in the NBA Developmental League for the Erie BayHawks and later played for the Toronto Raptors through the 2008-2009 season.

Quincy’s fearless play continued abroad when he signed a contract to play in Turkey on November 17, 2009. He finished as the top scorer of the Turkish Basketball League, averaging 23.6 points and 4.9 assists per game for his team.

Douby’s illustrious career continued for 8 years after his stellar 2009 campaign which allowed him to play in China & Turkey becoming one of the top performers in virtually every league he played in. The family man is now a father of 4 and he and his wife, Miesa currently reside in Miami Florida where Quincy has found a passion for Investment Property Management.

JR Inman has over 15 years of experience in youth, amateur, collegiate, professional level basketball programs. Scoring 1,000 points during his tenure at Rutgers University, JR also finished top 20 All Time in Scarlet Knights History in Rebounds and Blocked Shots. During his professional career, JR has played in over a dozen countries worldwide (China, Japan, Czechia Republic, Lithuania, to name a few).

When returning to the states in 2012, JR was fortunate to have a stint playing for the Harlem Globetrotters and was a part of the Inaugural rosters for both the Delaware 87ers and Westchester Knicks NBA G League teams (13’, 15’). His best performing season as a pro was captured in Uruguay (South America), where he averaged 19 PPG, 11 RPG.

Coach JR’s resume speaks for itself, but would is perhaps even more impressive is his knack for working with children. “ It wasn’t until after my last season in the G league, when I realized my true passion in basketball is in working with kids”, JR says. With 5 years of coaching experience in youth basketball, coach JR is the former Executive Director and Head Coach of the Rocktown Monarchs Basketball Program.
